For Presidents' Day 2018 we went out and did the most American thing we could on the holiday. Go drinking. The Subaru took us on a surprisingly sunny drive to Edmonds, Washington where just a few blocks from the sound we found Salish Sea Brewing Company.

Named for the network of waterways along the coast it's near the brewery sits on a busy street in Edmonds. I'm impressed with the interior of the brewery. Though it has a bit of the nautical theme that costal places popular with tourists often use, it doesn't lay it on too thick. It's comfortable. The aesthetic mixes with the old trophies and UW hats. When I ask about one of the medals hanging behind the bar I'm told it was traded to them for a bottle of water.
It's not a large place (and used to be smaller apparently) but this brewery has a big presence. Long inviting tables sit along smaller ones. There's an area clearly designated for events on one side, while the sounds of the kitchen come in from the other. The bar itself is long and has plenty of space. As I sat there it was stayed busy as a half dozen people came to buy or fill growlers.
I could go on about the layout of the place, the beers themselves, or even the food (good by the way), but it was the people behind the bar that made this place for me.
The bartenders here were a real treat in every way. Funny, personable, talkative. They also were happy to come out from behind the bar to sit down at your table and talk, or tell an amusing anecdote while getting a fresh pint. I know it's a bit different to highlight this, but these guys were just great. Between the quality of the beer (the Drop Anchor is great!) and the bartenders I didn't want to leave.
I'll end by mentioning that while sunny it was a remarkably cold day. This didn't stop two men and a door from enjoying their pints outside on the patio. I noticed them as I left and considered this as I started home. After a moment I decided that I would have to come back and try out the patio myself. That would be a good enough excuse to drive back out and enjoy one of my new favorite breweries again.
