For such a big name, the place is especially modest. As I enquire where they brew in the limited space I'm told that they brew elsewhere in Ellensburg. This is [the pub]. It's not the small town brewery I was expecting but given the aforementioned scale of the brewery and their reputation Maybe its approiate. A small place, centrally located in town where the focus is just drinking the beer with all the style of a brewery.
The place easily carries the style of their beer cans. What do I mean by that? Well, big windows let in sunlight and a view of the Main Street while cement floors combine with the mostly wood and metal features. Rough like the skulls on the can but comfortable and relaxed like the cleaver messages.
The pub was busy both times I went but it never seemed too crowded. Ample staff keep my pints full and there were more beers to try than I could physically take, hence the two trips.
A noticeable portion of the patrons there were enjoying their brew in some cool looking mugs. When I enquired they explained they were part of the mug club. Though by no means unique, this is the most active mug club I've ever seen. It underlines the friendliness of the place. A pervasive feeling that is as welcome in a brewery as the smell of hops.
As you travel along I-90 and have just conquered either the mountain pass or the dessert of eastern Washington this brewery is worth a stop. there are worse places to get a pint on the interstate but few better.
