Every UW student, and many of the professors I'd bet, knows about Big Time Brewery. This brewery is located a mere block away from the University of Washington campus and has room for all. Also there's a T-Rex mounted on the wall. Here's the quick breakdown.
Flagship beer: Scarlet Fire IPA
Dogs: Service animals only
Kids: Until 10 PM
Do they brew there: Yes
Food: Full menu
Has guest taps: Yes
Events: Yes!
Wi-fi: Yes
Outside seating: No
This brewery has the largest seating area of any brewery I've yet reviewed here and with a generous amount of wood used on the floor and accents it looks great. The front of the brewery is a mix of tables and chairs with a few very unique booths along one side. Big windows face the side walk and allow a comfortable amount of light into the establishment. Moving further back and to the right is a window for food orders. Did I mention this place has a full menu? Well this place has a full menu and while I didn't get to try everything, everything I did try(the pizza)was good.
To the left is a gorgeous wooden bar top accompanied by an equally gorgeous shelving space behind. The entire setup would be right at home in a western film and compliments the wood paneling of the establishment nicely. The bar itself is wide, supports several barstools, and as busy as it was when I sat down there I got served a pint quickly.
Going back there is even more seating and I notice a big group congregated there. No sooner do I approach when a very friendly man introduces himself with a handshake and asks if I'm there for Bitcoin. I stumble through a negative answer get a polite nod in return. Back at the bar top and after asking a few questions I learn that I've come while a meetup group is, well, meeting up. Before I can wonder too much about this I see another group forming in the front, this one setting up some board games. A second meetup group in the hour I've been there.
I elect to observe from afar and it occurs to me that this is a good example of what breweries should be about. A place to meet up with friends new and old and share a few pints while talking about mutual interests. None of the dim lighting of a bar, or the packed spaces of a place on game day(though I've nothing against either) but a relaxed friendly setting where the goal is having fun, not getting smashed.
There's not much else I can say about Big Time Brewery. It's a solid place with solid beer and food. That it seems to be THE place to hangout only adds to the charm.
