Recently I went to a brewery that while not that different, is the largest I've been to for this blog. Fremont Brewery is located, in their own words, in "Fremont, Earth". Here's the quick rundown.
Flagship: multiple
Dogs: yes
Kids: yes
Do they brew there: yes
Food: can order
Has guest taps: yes
Events: yes
Outside seating: yes
Also happens to be a Pokestop
As I mentioned earlier this brewery is big, both in size and in production. I'd had Fremont beer even before I'd been to that part of town, and not just in King County.
I went to the brewery on a Friday evening during one of those rare weeks when the weather is actually nice in Seattle. As I approach I could see that plenty of other people are enjoying the nice weather too. In fact, if the number of bikes outside is any indication, the place might be full.
Where some breweries may have a few tables and chairs with an umbrella or two on the sidewalk out front, the outside seating at Fremont is as big and expansive as the indoor area. Long friendly tables are packed with people and I can see dozens of lively conversations, celebrations, and relaxed friends enjoying their beer.
I make my way through the crowd and head inside to start looking for the bar. Actually, that should be plural. There's two bar counters running to keep up with all of the people here. Just like outside everyone is enjoying themselves here on long wood table, some bleachers, and a few couches. The mood is busy but not crowded and I can see a few board games going on some tables.
When I do get up to the counter I'm greeted by a large number of choices and throughout the night I try as many different ones as I can. They're all good, but for me the summer seasonal stands out.
When your good at something, like really good at something, you got the right to brag a little. That's the impression I get from Fremont Brewing because, boy is the beer good. It's big and busy but it's still fun. There's a ton of people, but it didn't feel crowded. More importantly it still had that thing, that magic. That brewery feeling that a sports bar the same size just wouldn't have.
I have my pints, make a few new friends, and when I head back outside night has fallen. Some people have cleared out but lights have come on for those who remain. As I head home I take a last glance at the neon heron of the sign and make a note to come back another time.
