You could be forgiven for missing Whitewall Brewing. They're not all that close to any of the I-5 exits in Marysville. The building itself is an unassuming metal one. No different from the dozens that line the long road it's on. Even the sign outside is easy to miss.

Located in Marysville Washington on a road running parallel to I-5 this brewery has a simple exterior but impresses inside.
Sitting on a concrete floor is one of the coziest tap rooms I've ever been in. Inviting round tables cover most of it with a few variants for different sized groups. Along one wall several chalkboards describe the brews available while on the opposite wall hang several mugs.
The place is busy when I arrive with my girlfriend. We make our way past the dogs, children, and couples young and old to one of the only free tables. After settling down I head over to the bar looking for a pint. The Bar top is impressive too. An untold number of pennies make up the counter. Aside from the clear effort the copper color blends well with the aesthetic of the room.
The bartenders are friendly. They recommend some beers, give me the quick version of the brewery's story, and explain maybe the most unique thing about the place.
Something that also impressed me was the limit on beers here. At the bottom of the beer list was a few sentences explaining the limits on beers per person. I enquired about this as their limits lined up with the brewery limit laws in my home state of Montana. They said it was their decision.
Knowing the dangers involved with alcohol and vehicles I find myself admiring this idea. It seems counter productive for a brewery to limit its potential sales, but I've already commented on the location. Apart from locals I'd imagine that many of their customers are like I was that day. Stopping to see the brewery before driving further down a busy interstate. Maybe it's for the best that there's no temptation to have too much.
Additionally that wasn't an idle comment about kids and dogs. There's games and crayons for kids to play with. While I usually need to ask about dog rules, here the answer was clear. Overall this brewery was really outstanding and it's got a place on my 'return to' list. If you're headed up I-5, you want to stop at Whitewall Brewing.
