It was a dark and stormy night when I went to Lantern brewing. The ever present dark clouds that cover the city in during the fall had made their presence known all day but only now that night had fallen did the rain began to pour.
I cling to my phone as I wound my way through North Seattle, counting off the streets until I found the one my phone had marked. Through the watery haze I spotted a simple sign placed on the soaked sidewalk. Lantern Brewing it read. I pushed past the lonely food truck and grip the handle of the door. Warm air greets me as I open it up to reveal...

Located in North Seattle Lantern brewing seems to be a small operation. In fact when we visited there was only one person working there, and he was the brewer.
The building has a very reused feel. Large garage-style doors line one side. In fact the above the entrance one can spot one of these doors that has since had the space below modified to the doorway size. A concrete floor rounds out the warehouse feel.
This isn't to say that the brewery has no decoration. For from it in fact. The first things I notice are the old-style French beer posters. Framed and spread throughout the space they join American, French, and Belgian flags for decoration. A Washington flag is on display as well and I reflect that not enough breweries are rocking mgreen flag.
For seating there is the classic bar with bar stools, and a few random tables. The majority of the seating, however, consists of picnic tables. Coupled with hanging lights the feeling is one of openness and being outdoors without, well, being outside in the rain.
Consciously or unconsciously Lantern Brewing captures the feel and style of the small craft brewery to a T. What makes the place special is that they do everything right. It's not just the space but what they've done with out down to details such as a chalkboard with upcoming food trucks listed. From the beer to the atmosphere, Lantern Brewing is worth a visit.
