This brewery isn't too far from the sprawling Alderwood mall but still manages to be a little secluded. Tucked away on one end of a long building the brewery has a deceptively plain exterior. A trick of the light as I approached made the glass windows that formed the entry wall and door seem tinted. So much I wonders if the place was open at all.
Fortunately, my fears were ill founded. Once inside I found the brewery beyond welcoming. The space is small but cozy. Before I can fully take it all in a friendly waitress shows me to a table and puts a menu in my hand. Minutes later I'm settled in with a pint, food on the way, and the Huskies game on the tv. I take the first sip of the IPA and hazard a look around.
The space isn't all that big with another section past mine (I'm sitting near the entrance) filled with high top tables and a modest bartop. Exposed wood beams and ceiling cover this area, a brewery staple, and just beyond there is the required window into the brewing operations itself. Everything looks great, but nothing really stands out.
Well, that is except for what they've done with the limited wall space. Every vertical surface has something on it. All different and fun in a way that puts any Red Robins to shame. My favorite was a very unique Big Lebowski picture.
The food arrives quicker than I expected and even before I finish my burger I've decided to stay and watch the whole game here and try more beers than I usually do when I'm out at a brewery for the first time.
Big E's isn't big, it isn't doing much that every other brewery isn't, but it is cozy. It's a cozy place to relax and watch some football. so I don't have all that much to say this week, but I will say that with a Pacific Northwest fall now in full swing, a cozy place to drink is exactly what I like.
