For the modern Seattleite, specifically one not native to the area, Bellevue is something of an unknown. There's the mall, of course, with a few stores that all of the malls have and some Seattle doesn't. There's a few restaurants that all cities have and some Seattle doesn't. It's different sure, but I've spent very little time there. I need a reason to make the drive across the 520. My most recent reason was to visit Bellevue Brewing Company.

Located a fair distance from the hustle and bustle of the town I nearly missed this place when I drove out. A sign on the window, the one in the picture above, is only obvious when directly in front of the place. The unassuming outside of the brewery was nonetheless flanked by several parked cars. Evidence, I reflected as I held the door for my girlfriend that the place was popular.
I'd expected the building to be full from these parked cars but that wasn't the case. Instead I found a very open space with everything you could ask for from a bar.
There was a large bar along one side. Several stools, many occupied but just as many open. Taps and a list of beers sat behind the bar while the bartenders talked with the patrons. My eyes followed where the bar curved back to see the brewing process.
The opposite side of the building had at least one conference style room. As we headed inside I could see several people enjoying beers and hear good conversation from the private party.
The center of the large room was dominated by a heard of small tables. Like at the bar there were just as many open tables as there were occupied ones. Still, the scale and openness of the brewery let of from feeling crowded.
To entertain this section one wall had been cleared. A projector displayed the current sports game on the wall for everyone to watch. I'm not usually a fan of projectors in place of a TV, but this one looked good here.
This brewery offered both food and beer, a winning combination. As I enjoyed both I became away that this place must fill up sometimes. Though I haven't seen it yet, I can picture the site filled with 12's on a Sunday or a mix of red and purple on a fall Saturday.
This brewery is not only another reason for Seattleite to brave the tolls of the 520 or the traffic I-90 to come to Bellevue. It's THE reason to take the drive down those roads. Check these guys out, I recommend the pretzels.
