The top floor of the Westlake Mall houses several restaurants and a movie theatre. Along one side of this space sits the Gorden Biersh Brewery Restaurant. Large, proud GB letters adorne the area and wooden accents welcome anyone who ventures close. The inside is standard, but impressive. A large bar area with a long bartop runs below windows that fame the brewing process going on behind them. Tables and chairs sit in the standard ways while awards shine from their places on the wall.

The restaurant and brewery has a very modern, new look to it. In fact I was surprised to learn that it was actually an older brewery. See the center of the mall is open space and above it there's a massive skylight. As I sit there I'm told that as the mall was being built all of the brewing equipment was airlifted in. Like by helicopter. If that's not cool, I don't know what is.
Another cool thing I notice about Gorden Biersh is that they have multiple sizes of pours. When I go to a new brewery I like to try more than a few of their beers, but not always as a sample tray. By having a few different sizes available one can practically try and drink as many different beers as they can handle.
Overall the Gorden Biersh is an impressive find in downtown Seattle. Almost hidden behind all the department stores and concrete this brewery is a real treat. Doesn't hurt that the beer is also pretty good.
