Western Washington is uniquely blessed in its location. Close to both the vast Pacific Ocean on one side and great Cascade Mountains on the other. Kayaking in the sound is hardly 100 miles from mountain biking in the national forest. It is fitting then that a brewery in this wondrous part of the world would deliberately invoke this. Enter Sound to Summit Brewing.

This modest brewery is located just
outside of snoholmish in that sweet spot of the evergreen state. A bright orange sign proclaims the location of the brewery just off a busy highway. Walking inside the place immediately gives off the relaxed, casual feel all breweries strive for. Much of the buildings' guts are on display but a few pictures on the walls keep things looking friendly while being the first things I notice to live up to both the "sound" and "summit" parts of their name.
Wood tables both long and regular mingle with their high top counter parts to form the bulk of the seating in the brewery, with a few stools around a large bar to round out the experience.
Behind this bar is the brewery classic chalkboard beer list. Said lost detailed a number of cleverly named beers. Titles like black sail and 6-gill IPA share the board with Big Wall and Avalanche Amber adding to the ocean/mountain theme.
Another brewery staple is the repurposed space atheistic. Sound to Summit manages this as well but in a unique way. The rafters are exposed and strings of lights hang across the ceiling but it doesn't seem simply placed there. Rather, it reminds me of being outside. Sitting outside the lodge at the base of a ski lift with a dark pint or on a porch overlooking the water with an amber. These lights, the layout of the tables, and the use of the space all remind me of drinking outdoors.
I've little else to say except that I recommend this place to anyone passing through the area. The food was good, the beer was better, and the people were fantastic.
